“…beauty broke through, opening up a glimpse of life beyond our everyday thoughts and problems.”
It was involuntary. But it was the only thing that felt right. It happened when my wife and I walked toward La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. We loved the city; the hot chocolate at the Granja Dulcinea, the Catalan food, the Gaudi inspired park and apartment building. The cathedral was still under construction but the scaffolding could not hide the power of the architecture. The spires point 500 feet in the air with a grandeur that, without words, communicates wonder and awe. Its beauty broke through, opening up a glimpse of life beyond our everyday thoughts and problems. Our experience of its beauty surprised us, filled us, and we dropped to our knees. Worship was the only response that made sense of it all.
Journal Prompts:
When have you experienced beauty?
How did you respond?
How can that experience affect your everyday life?
The human ‘diagnosis’ was ice fog.
Coming off the mountain after being in AngelFire New Mexico. It was a stunningly bright day and suddenly we were in the midst of millions of sparkles. The experience was breathtaking and the sense of being surrounded by God’s angels was unmistakable. It was only 15 minutes but felt as if it was an eternity of love and awe.
