“Why did I survive?…Was it random? Was it providential?”
My mom returned home from shopping to find my Dad engrossed in the book he was reading. She broke his concentration with a question. “Where is Randy?” He looked up with the realization that he had no idea. They began a search that became more frantic with time. Finally, they found my infant body unmoving beneath some furniture. An empty bottle of muscle relaxers was lying beside me.
They dragged me out, scooped me up, put me in the car, and raced toward the hospital. A policeman stopped them for speeding. As soon as he saw my lifeless body and the look on my parents’ faces he rushed back to his car and escorted them to the hospital. The doctor and nurses pumped my stomach in time to save my life.
Why did I survive? Was it random? Was it providential? I can’t scientifically prove either possibility. But I know which one empowers me to makegoodhappen in my life.
