A newly paid subscriber asked me where he should start reading. As the MakeGoodHappen channel develops this will become more intuitive. But we agreed that in these early days, some kind of “table of contents” would be helpful. So, here is my suggested order of reading with a few explanatory notes and some prompts for your input as we move forward.
I. The First Three: Life, Death, and The Spectre in the Shadows
These three autobiographical posts are a great place to start. They will give you insight into what makes me tick. I also hope that they will inspire you in your own integration of faith into your everyday life. These first posts are just the beginning of my story. There are plenty more to come.
II. The Next Two: If You Are Struggling with Church and The Attic
These two posts will take you deeper into the strategy behind this Substack community. There will be additional posts of this kind as we continue on your adventure of freedom, creativity and gratitude.
Prompt for you: Let me know in the response section below what is clear about our path thus far and what needs further definition.
III. The “Habits” Series
These posts are where the rubber hits the road. We will be exploring a number of spiritual practices that have helped people go deeper in their faith over the centuries. No matter where you are on your journey, implementing lessons from the posts will take you deeper and help you makegoodhappen in your life, your relationships, and your community.
IV. The “Compendium” Section
There are two different types of posts in this section of the website. (1) Each “quotes” post begins with three provocative quotes followed by a more detailed description of each and links for further study. The idea is to read the three quotes to see which one resonates with you. Read more about that one and consider how it can help you in your journey. (2) The Compendium Entries focus on a word or phrase that is important to our spiritual life. We are just getting started here, but I foresee hundreds of entries to equip and inspire you on your adventure.
If the most recent quote or compendium post doesn’t speak to you right now, no problem. All of these entries will be available to you as a growing resource on the site. I encourage you to return to them every once in a while and see what new inspiration hits you.
Prompt for you: Let me know of the words, phrases and stories that you would like to see soon on MakeGoodHappen in the comment section below.
V. The New Commentary Posts
This series of posts focuses on ways we can practically use the Bible in our lives. There are 66 books in the Bible and 1,189 chapters so we have plenty to reflect on as we move forward together. Thus far we have looked at the Prodigal Son and the Lord’s Prayer with more on the way. I encourage you to return to these, as with the Compendium posts, and see which New Commentary Scripture passages are speaking to you.
Prompt: Which passages of the Bible should I make a priority? Let me know below.
I hope your excitement is building as much as mine is for the journey ahead of us. I can’t wait to see what the next steps will bring.
Sincerely,
Randy Lovejoy
And with holy decernment
I am honored you would ask for my thoughts. Thank you.
The last few verses where we are encouraged to know that God is there in life & death and struggles and “ease” … the continuity between earth and heaven. I’ve been studying Richard Rohr’s book The Naked Now over the past few weeks and working toward a non-dual vision.
