What will happen if we dedicate ourselves more fully to wisdom?
"The truth was, that the little Puritans, being of the most intolerant brood that ever lived, had got a vague idea of something outlandish, unearthly, or at variance with ordinary fashions, in the mother and child; and therefore scorned them in their hearts, and not unfrequently reviled them with their tongues."
-From The Scarlet Letter, commonly assigned reading in 11th and 12th grade English classes in the U.S.1

Scorn and contempt grow within us when we allow fear to compel our words and actions. This is completely contrary to what the writers’ of the Proverbs were describing:
A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.2
Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honour.3
(God) mocks proud mockers but shows favour to the humble and oppressed.4
Proverbs describes those who follow wisdom as generous, humble, and refreshing.
